Background

Since a little child I have loved dogs. I got my first dog in the age of nine years. It was a finnish spitz called Hessu. In 1983 I got my first basset hound Foggybottom Flashy Friar “Petteri”. He was a real heartbreaker: best tempered and a great personality. It is his “fault” that I fell in love with this unique breed. Year 1985 I got my first bitch Longbody’s Inez from Margareta Granqvist, who later became a very good friend of mine. I have learned a lot from her.

Mated to Longbody’s Great Gigolo Inez gave birth to first Woodhead litter 1987. From that litter of five puppies I kept W.Weddingcake (who became my best broodbitch so far, mother of 5 champions) and other puppies were sold. W.Wienerwaltz went to family Johansson (Dinky goldens and Patukan bassets) and was later mated to FIN CH Olympos Giorgio of Bev. Hills. From that litter I got a bitchpuppy Patukan Piika “Suvi”, who is so far the most decorated basset hound in Finland. After that first litter there has been fifteen more Woodhead-litters.

During these years I have also imported basset hounds. From Great Britain came GB CH Fredwell Fiasco in 1988. In the same year I purchased an adult bitch, Olympos Pina Colada, from Danish kennel Olympos. From the same kennel came 1989 Olympos Giorgio of Bev. Hills, who first lived in kennel Patukan and came then to me. Together with Riikka Stenfors (Bastante kennel) we imported 1990 a male from Cathy and Jerry Spencer, USA: Jercats Ringside Gossip. Year 1996 I bought a bitch from Sweden: Swede Sun’s Wilma.

In 2000 we imported Multi CH Obelix van Hollandheim from Carla Gerber, Netherlands, Lisnoe Moonshiner from Carole and Sam Laverty, North Ireland and Sheels’s Shania Twain and Scheel’s Tri A Little Magic from Birte and Kresten Scheel, Denmark. In 2002 came Obi's son Cze Ch Rambo Dominik from Helena Partlova, Czeck.

The life with my dogs was mainly full of joy and pleasure until March 2002. That is when I lost one of the greatest bassets I have ever had, Obelix van Hollandheim. Years 2002 and 2003 became the worst time in my life as a dog owner and a breeder. Beside "Obi" I also lost two very special and deeply beloved friends: Obi's son Rambo Dominik and my little sweet girl Woodhead Just Joy... All three because of torsion.
This was a very difficult time for me and I was very near to quit...

After these tragical losts we are trying to go on and have got some new family members...

At the moment I’m having 12 dogs, all living in and about the house, sleeping in the sofas and some of them (not all!) in my bed. Though breeding is very interesting and a big challenge and I like showing too, still the main function my dogs have, is to be great companions and dear pets.
